The Wing Assignment

The Wing Assignment is an Arts Project open to Artists of all disciplines. The assignment is to create an artwork inspired by or using a birds wing.

High Flyer by John Whitelaw, Created for The Wing Assignment Jan 2012 John Whitelaw is definitely a promoter of new technology and borderline geek.  “I like to manipulate my photos and the flexibility of producing work digitally.” He is inspired equally by street art as much as when he’s in a gallery.   John studied Communication Media at Maidstone College of Art & Design between 1993 and 1996 specialising in Illustration.  Graduating with a degree he spent a year in London before moving back home to Liverpool. All of John’s work is produced digitally but ideas always start from his sketchbook and a stack of post-it notes on his desk.  This will be then incorporated into photography on his phone and progress to a more polished image using Photoshop/Illustrator.  “I try to keep my work fresh and therefore subject matter is derived from pop culture. I see all wall space as a potential gallery and I’m not afraid to approach anywhere were potentially a large influx of the public will see my images.”
