Wing Mallard
Created for The Wing Assignment July 2012
Emma’s paintings are personal explorations, journeys and observations that are coaxed out of her studio and on to canvas, resulting in a questioning of self (and herself) as woman in contemporary society; seen, unseen and being seen.’

This piece was produced as a direct response to the physicality of receiving the wings; as soon as I opened the package and touched them I wanted to feel them directly on my flesh and this was my initial response to that desire. My creation resulted from a process of trying to find a personal connection with the mallard wings; there was a sadness about them coupled with an amazement of the possibilities of what they could (and do) represent.
