The Wing Assignment is an Arts Project open to Artists of all disciplines. The assignment is to create an artwork inspired by or using a birds wing.

Artist: Emma Harvey Artwork: Wings Medium: Oil & mixed media on canvas Dimensions:35cm x 45cm Wing Mallard Created for The Wing Assignment July 2012 Emma’s paintings are personal explorations, journeys and observations that are coaxed out of her studio and on to canvas, resulting in a questioning of self (and herself) as woman in contemporary society; seen, unseen and being seen.’ This piece was produced as a direct response to the physicality of receiving the wings; as soon as I opened the package and touched them I wanted to feel them directly on my flesh and this was my initial response to that desire. My creation resulted from a process of trying to find a personal connection with the mallard wings; there was a sadness about them coupled with an amazement of the possibilities of what they could (and do) represent.
